Auto Discovery
HelpSTAR’s Auto Discovery utility can
gather inventory information about the workstations on
your LAN. It may be run from a line in your login script
and will scan in the background at the lowest process
priority, so it will not affect your end users.
The utility will scan your workstations for both hardware
configuration and software. The information gathered is
automatically imported into the system and can be viewed
by support reps when diagnosing a problem with the user’s
PC. Managers can also use this information to determine
workstation configurations and manage software license
compliance. Machines can also be scanned via HelpSTAR’s
Web interface to allow technicians to gather data from
remote PC’s.

Once a workstation has been allocated
to a user (or the user’s department or company), if the
workstation causes a problem then the user may open a
service request and associate the workstation with it.
Managers can run workstation reports to identify their
organization’s most troublesome workstations, or those
that have incurred the highest support costs. This
information can be used to service or replace problem
workstations, schedule maintenance visits, rotate spare
equipment, etc.

For more focused analysis, you can
create custom queries based on the workstations that have
been audited. The query ‘templates’ can be named and saved
for private use, allowing them to be quickly run whenever
required.

Query results can be exported as a
comma delimited .csv file for opening in an Excel
spreadsheet.
